Welcome to Slosh Ink! – SA Game Jam 2024 Entry
This game was created for the SA Game Jam 2024, a 72-hour challenge based on the theme Midnight Staircase.
Our team had three intense days to bring this concept to life!
Premise
In this game, you play as the owner of a 24-hour tattoo parlour located next to a booming nightclub.
As you balance making money with ethical decisions, your goal is to build a strong reputation while navigating the challenge of tattooing increasingly intoxicated clients. You must decide whether to accept, refuse, or suggest alternative designs, but beware—poor choices can cost you both money and reputation if clients regret their tattoos when they sober up.
Gameplay Guide
“Alright, here’s how the night goes down. Your reputation starts fresh at zero, and by the end, you need it in the positive. How you handle each customer will make or break your score, so let’s walk through the process.”
Customers and Their ‘Slosh’ Level
“Each customer has a ‘Slosh’ level – that’s how drunk they are. The more sloshed they are, the trickier it’ll be to make them happy with the tattoo. That level plays a part in how things turn out, so keep it in mind.”
Your Choices
“When a customer tells you what they want, you’ve got three options. Each choice impacts your reputation, and what comes next.”
Accept the Tattoo Request
“You can take their request as-is. If they end up happy with the result, your reputation goes up. But if they don’t like it, your score takes a hit.”
Reject the Tattoo Request
“Not into their idea? You can turn them down completely. But rejecting a client will drop your reputation a little.”
Suggest an Alternative Design
“Got a better idea in mind? You can suggest an alternative design. It’ll cost you a small reputation hit upfront, but it increases your chances of success. If the customer likes the new design, you’ll still come out with positive reputation points.”
The Wheel of Satisfaction
“Now, here’s where things get interesting. Whether you accepted their original design or suggested an alternative, you’ll need to spin the wheel of satisfaction. This wheel decides whether the customer is satisfied with the tattoo.”
“Your choices affect how much the odds are in your favour. If you went with a risky option, like accepting a tough request, the chances are lower. But if you suggested an alternative and nailed the mini-game, you’ll increase your success rate and have a better shot at making the client happy.”
The Mini-Game (Slider Mechanic)
“If you suggest an alternative design, you’ll get into a mini-game before spinning the wheel. The goal here is to stop a moving slider at just the right time. The more sloshed the customer is, the harder the slider is to control.”
“Hitting the centre of the slider gives you the best odds for success when you spin the wheel. If you land on the edges, your chances drop a bit, but there’s still hope.”
Points in the Mini-Game:
- Nail it? Your reputation rises.
- Miss? You’ll lose some reputation points.
Quota Challenges
“Once you’ve got a few rounds under your belt, things heat up. You’ll get a quota to meet – a certain number of satisfied customers. If you hit that quota, you’ll earn extra reputation points. But these challenges are no walk in the park, so get ready for a tough ride.”
End Goal
“Your mission? Finish the night with a positive reputation. Spin the wheel wisely, meet your quotas, and you’ll leave here on top. Mess things up, and your reputation will tank. Remember, every choice affects your odds of success, so play smart, and good luck out there!"
